AI Is Ruining Journalists Now?…

Taylor Lorenz likes AI too much, and now she’s saying that Twitter is better with Elon and that she’s “politically homeless” like Ana Kasparian. I hate this.

Get involved and let’s kick these fascists out of power together!

Some comments in this:

Taylor’s not disillusioned on politics. She’s disillusioned to being held to a consistent standard and has decided the grift is less stressful and more profitable.

The words “I’m glad he (Elon) took over” as someone claiming to making it her job to be informed disqualify her as a someone to listen to. “Becoming a libertarian” as a preteen/teen can be forgiven as something to grow out of but announcing it as an established “journalist” comes with intent.

Unfortunately the non-English side of Twitter is still going like nothing ever happened. I live in Thailand now and Twitter is a major official communication channel for entertainment companies, actors, bands… And it’s one of the main places for fandom communities. It’s the only place companies put some information, the only place some fans post concert tickets for sale, the only place to find information in the moment when events are confusing or change plans… I hate it but it feels like the rest of the world barely noticed the change and didn’t/don’t care about the political implications. For myself, I have an account but I don’t post or contribute to the site and I only go on the site if I can’t find the info elsewhere. I hate it.

I wasn’t terribly familiar with her until the last year or so. I’d watched a few videos, i thought she had some interesting points in and hadn’t really paid attention to her otherwise, but she absolutely lost me at the point that she kept suggesting that there were absolutely no impacts on water usage for ai data centers. I grew up in the deserts of the US where we’ve had to constantly fight corporations and other states for rights to the waters run through our land and under our soil, it’s been an up hill battle the whole way. even if there isn’t an effect on the drinking water like she had claimed with these data centers, the loss of water rights in some areas would have a detrimental effect on local populations but also the environments that these waters are being pulled from.
