There’s a rule people think exists in American politics:
gay people vote Democrat, conservatives hate gay people — end of story.
And statistically, that mostly holds. LGBTQ voters overwhelmingly back Democrats.
But here’s the uncomfortable part:
some LGBTQ people don’t just vote conservative — they embrace conservatism.
They show up to rallies. They reject Pride politics.
They insist they’re “not like other gays.”
And they almost always say the same things:
“My sexuality isn’t political.”
“I’m not a single-issue voter.”
“Gay rights are settled.”
This isn’t a story about pretending they’re the majority — they aren’t.
And it’s not about pretending the right suddenly became queer-friendly — it didn’t.
It’s about something deeper.
What are gay conservatives actually reacting to?
