In 2016, about 80 percent of white evangelical Protestants voted for Donald Trump (Edison Research) — and in 2020, roughly 76 percent backed Trump while 24 percent went for Joe Biden (AP VoteCast).
That’s not a stereotype; that’s the math.
So when I first heard about evangelicals on the left, I honestly thought it was an oxymoron.
But the more I dug, the stranger – and more interesting -it got.
Because hidden beneath the loud, Trump-era version of Christianity is a quieter movement that’s been here the whole time.
